A HISTORY OF ATTAQUER

In 2012 a bold choice on the bike meant Mapei team kit. With a shared love of the sport and valuable experience in the fashion and cycling industries between them, Greg Hamer and Stevan Musulin knew they could do it better and so Attaquer was born.

A french name with an unapologetically Australian inflection. From the outset they’ve sought to tread their own path, taking cues from outside the traditions of cycling in the worlds of art, music, fashion, street and skate. Boutique kit brands and industry ‘disruptors’ are a dime a dozen in 2022, but ten years ago Attaquer truly changed the industry with bold, matching print kits of the quality and performance that only the pros had access to at the time. Their fashion-forward approach, with an uncompromising focus on technicality, cemented Attaquer as a genuine pioneer in the world of cycling, instantly recognisable across the globe.

Founded and based in Sydney, Australia, a uniquely Australian character threads through the brand, an acknowledgement of but complete disregard for the ‘rules’ of cycling. For the last decade Attaquer has been offering cyclists the opportunity to express themselves on the bike, to be their 'Alter Egos'. Never stopping to take a breath, Attaquer has been relentlessly pushing forward, continuously innovating to redefine premium cycling apparel and reset the standard. From iconic seasons of limited kits to the current head-to-toe, four season range, the brand is a long way from where it started, but still unmistakably, inimitably Attaquer.

Art, music and fashion run deep in the DNA of Attaquer and our instantly recognisable artist collaborations have always been an important and unique feature point, the most overt expression of these foundations. From local tattoo artists, to young and emerging artists, right through to ubiquitous icons like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, these collections have echoed our shared approaches, the rule-breaking DIY attitudes that set them and us apart from the rest.

Working with elite teams has kept us on our toes, pushing us to develop kit fit for the most extreme use cases. It’s been both an invaluable opportunity to test and learn from the best cyclists as well as support the racing community we’re proud to be a part of. Beyond just the road with Roxsolt and Crit Dawgs, we’ve kitted out CX, MTB and Fixed teams, and even chalked up a national championship to boot.

ALTER EGO SERIES

To us, Attaquer is an attitude, it’s about doing things differently, uninhibited by traditions or the rules. Nothing compares to riding your bike, especially with good mates, looking good and feeling good. Attaquer has always set out to help everyone express the most unapologetic version and audacious version of themselves, regardless of who they are day to day. To be their Alter Ego.

To champion these characters, we put together a series of short films showcasing the stories of people who live and breathe this attitude. The original and perhaps best known featured Ross Vinstein, the renowned LA tattoo artist and CFO and his deeply personal connection with the bike. We’ve since covered engineers to bus drivers from across the globe, inspiring all to own their own stories in the same spirit.

LOCATION SHOOTS

The final puzzle piece of every new collection launch is a photoshoot to do it justice. We’ve taken these opportunities to travel to some of the most iconic locations on the globe as well as plenty more we’d never have suspected, from the Snowies to the Italian Alps, from central Australia to the centre of Tokyo, from the Hollywood sign to the alley behind our office.

ATTAQUER SKULL

For many the most recognisable and beloved feature of Attaquer. Still going strong, it's come a long way since that very first sketch in 2012.

AHEAD OF THE CURVE

We've always worked hard to push the boundaries. Well before 'Gravel' took the world by storm, we were hitting the roads less travelled, rocking legionnaires caps and finding new ways to do things.

BIG PAKORN

The Attaquer community has no shortage of characters and perhaps the most loved and recognisable of those is our mate Big Pakorn in Thailand. There’s nobody who better exemplifies our ethos, totally and unashamedly breaking the mould and being his Alter Ego.

Cycling and coffee go together like Simon and Garfunkel, so
it only made sense to pair up with one of Sydney's best loved caffeine merchants Mecca. Cyclists Sydney wide knew that the sight of the iconic Citroën H-van guaranteed good brews.

2019-2020

2019-2020

ATQ x Factor Bikes

2019 saw a number of new Limited collections, including a Melbourne Pop Up to celebrate our second collaboration with artist Keith Haring. We travelled to New Zealand and Thailand for photoshoots and continued our fruitful partnership with the Australian Womens cycling team Roxsolt Attaquer as they dominated the 2019 season, scoring a national road championship along the way. In 2020 the launch of the Tie or Die collection coincided with our collaboration with the ultra-premium Factor Bikes.

2021-2022

2021 AND BEYOND

While much of the world was shutting down, we were opening up. 2021 saw the grand opening of our flagship retail location at our home base in Surry Hills, Sydney. To celebrate the launch of the ATQ x Will Carsola collection, over 250 cyclists hit the road for a ride before parking up at the new shop for a morning of tunes, doughnuts and coffee. Keep your eyes peeled for plenty more from Attaquer HQ.

In 2022 we celebrated our 10th anniversary with a huge collection revisting our greatest kits throughout the decade and a party to match at our HQ in Sydney. To round out a huge year for Attaquer, we hosted a pop-up/pub takeover for the entire week of the UCI Road World Championships down in Wollongong

Stay tuned for plenty more to come from Attaquer in 2023 and beyond!
