[A VISUAL JOURNAL]
BIKEPACKING TASMANIA

Join best mates Mark and Muz - a professional photographer and a primary school teacher, as they try their hand at bikepacking, somehow managing to make it back alive. With little more than the kit on their backs, these two unlikely heroes quickly work out that bikepacking can be whatever you make it. You just need to start...

The Route:

Day One: Launceston to Mole Creek (83km 630m)
After flying in to Launceston later than ideal, the boys quickly built their bikes, strapped on their bags and made their way east to Mole Creek, racing to beat sundown.

Day Two: Mole Creek to Cradle Mountain (103km 2425m)
Day two saw the boys head north towards Sheffield then around the base of Mount Roland before commencing the multiple nasty climbs of Bell Mount, Courtney Hill and the majestic Cradle Mountain.

Day Three: Cradle Mountain to Queenstown (112km 1691m)
What goes up must come down and day three started with a welcome descent down Cradle Mountain before a cool mid-ride dip in Lake Plimsoll, then onwards to Queenstown for the night.

Day Four: Queenstown to Tarraleah (141km 2235m)
Day four was not so forgiving and the climbing commenced from kilometre dot. Up Mount Lyell, across to the North Owen Peak, crossing Lake Burbury, before making it up the infamous Mount King William, 1324m above sea level - the highest point of the trip. After a switchbacked descent down Tungatinah, the boys spent the night in Tarraleah.

Day Five: Tarraleah to Hobart (127km 1285m)
Day five would be the last and it started with a long descent down in to New Norfolk. Fighting a headwind and rainstorms the boys followed the famous Derwent River all the way into Hobart Harbour. No fanfare awaited, just wet clothes and a flight to catch.
